House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon and a Liberian parliamentary delegation have successfully participated in the Second Forum of Chairpersons of Foreign Affairs Committees of African Parliaments, held on February 20-21 in Rabat, Morocco.
The two-day forum brought together African lawmakers, especially heads of Foreign Affairs, Security, and Defense Committees, under the theme “Towards Establishing Lasting Foundations for Stability and Security in Africa.”
Among other things, Discussions focused on strengthening parliamentary cooperation, advancing development, and addressing critical challenges across the continent.
Following cross sessions of deliberations, delegates adopted “The Declaration of Rabat,” formally establishing the African Forum of Foreign Affairs and Defense Committees.
As part of that decision, Morocco’s House of Representatives will serve as the permanent secretariat, with four vice-secretaries representing Central, West, East, and Southern Africa.
Participants at the same time during meeting toured key Moroccan landmarks, including the Tanger Med Mega-Port, a $14 billion world-class shipping facility at the Strait of Gibraltar.
Additionally, They visited Cap Spartel, home to Africa’s oldest known lighthouse, to explore its rich history.
During the visit, Speaker Koon held bilateral discussions with Moroccan Parliament Speaker Rachid Talbi El Alami to strengthen ties between the two legislative bodies.
The delegation also met with Liberian students in Morocco to discuss their concerns.
Nyan Flomo, Chair of the House’s Education Committee, assured students of the Legislature’s commitment to resolving their challenges. Education Minister Dr. Jarso Jallah joined the meeting via Zoom.
Meanwhile, The delegation, which included Representatives Nehker Gaye, Nyan Flomo, Gizzie Kollince, and Manah Bishop Johnson, is expected to return this weekend.
