The President of the Confederation of African Football Patrick Motsepe has underscored the need for more support and Involvement of African Governments and the private sector into the game especially on the continent of Africa.
Speaking at the 46th General Assembly of CAF in Ethiopia, President Motsepe said bigger nations and clubs that are doing well in the game is because of their governments support including the private sector something he encouraged the continent of Africa to follow suit.
“If you recognize the most successful Football Nations and Clubs in the world,their economies are strong and they get support from their governments and the private sector, their leagues are sponsor and their national teams are also sponsor”, President Motsepe reechoed.
He indicated further that you can’t build infrastructure in the sector without the support and partnership from the government.
The CAF boss disclosed to delegates attending the Assembly that Ivory Coast Economy benefited 1.4b Dollars from the hosting for the just ended Nations Cup.
According to him, it shows a clear connection in sucess in Football and success in economic growth.
Football he stressed is more than what happens on the field of play.
He at the same time commended Africans for their love and patience for Football which he added has no limit.
Speaking further he told the gathering that governance and ethics are important and non negotiable.
He stated that part of the success and respect that CAF has obtained and continue to receive is because of its hard work and respect for guiding rules and Statues, among others.
“There is zero tolerance for corruption and Bribery and there is zero tolerance for violation and not respecting CAF and FIFA’S status and regulations “, Mr. Motsepe further informed the gathering Tuesday, October 2, 2024.
He also disclosed huge progress made over the period as such hailed his team members including the Secretariat of CAF.
Meanwhile, the 46th General Assembly of CAF currently taking place in Ethiopia brought together Association Presidents including Mustapha Raji, President of the Liberia Football Association and other key stakeholders to discuss several issues relative to the sector with the aim of further improving the game on the continent of Africa.
