President Joseph Nyuma Boakai on Saturday July 19. 2025 delivered the keynote address at the program marking the 4th Commencement of the Bong County Technical College held in its capital Gbarnga City.
Speaking at the ceremony the Liberian Leader emphasized the importance of quality education to rural areas, stating that it is a matter of fairness and national unity for rural citizens to be included in every form of development across the country.
According to the Liberian leader, the goal of vision 2030 is to create a capable and prosperous state, and one of the building blocks is a technologically innovative society.
In addition he narrated that, the vision depends heavily on institutions like BCTC and every graduate with the knowledge, skills, and innovation capacity.
“Let Liberians know that we are at a critical time as a nation, I did not come for the presidency rather I’m here to recuse our nation and people”.
President highlighted that this is precisely why the government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development is important which focuses on Agriculture, Road, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation and Tourism, places technical and vocational education at the core of Liberia’s transformation journey.
Quoting Nelson Mandela, President Boakai described education as “the most powerful tool which one can use to change the world. He then went on, “today you have the tool use it wisely to uplift and change the narrative”.
As the country works to attract investment, grow the economy and develop its natural resources Liberians especially skilled and trained young people like you must be part of those benefits, he urged.
The BCTC college was established in 2010 and approved by the national commission of higher education in 2015 to grant Bachelor’s degree in six disciplines including, civil engineering, mining engineering, agriculture technology, computer engineering, education and health sciences.
He commended the administrators, faculty, and staff for their dedication, stressing that their work matters now more than ever. “As you expand programs, improve infrastructure, and build meaningful partnerships be reminded to focus on equity, outreach and excellence.
“Let’s rewrite the story of rural Liberia as a place of growth”
To conclude president Boakai reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the government’s Arrest Agenda for Inclusive Development.
