OWECC-L and PUFPIL Sign MOU To Promote Peace, Massive Advocacy and Awareness On Transitional Justice Issues Across The Country

The office for the Establishment of War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia and people Uniting for peace in Liberia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding geared towards promoting peace and raising robust awareness around Transitional justice issues across the Country.

The signing ceremony marked the seventh of its kind by the OWECC-L since its establishment.

The move among other things demonstrates the trust and confidence Partners and Civil society groups have in the workings of the OWECC-L .

Speaking at the signing ceremony , the Executive Director of OWECC-L Cllr. Jallah Barbu said OWECC-L remains resolved as part of its mandate to ensure that the courts are established in Liberia.

Cllr. Barbu also assured the PUFPIL that OWECC-L is fully committed to the collaboration which is also geared towards promoting peace and bringing final closure to Liberia’s bitter past.

He thanked the PUFPIL for reposing confidence in the OWECC-L for said collaboration in the Supreme interests of the nation and its people.

His statement was flanked by Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Cllr. Jedi Armah who pleged the government’s unwearing support towards the workings of the OWECC-L.

The government Cllr. Armah stated is seriously concerned with sustaining Liberia’s peace as well as working to ensure that the vices that led to the Civil crisis are finally brought to an end through the OWECC-L.

As part of the MOU, the two parties agreed to undertake collaborative protection, advocacy and promotional activities, leading to the drafting of the statute of the War and Economic Crimes Court and the National Anti-Corruption Court.

At the same time, both parties agreed to engage in resource-sharing, with individual support based on need and competencies to complete specific tasks.

Also speaking briefly at the signing ceremony was the Head of the PUFPIL Rev. Adolphus Capehart who commended OWECC-L for its work since its establishment by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.

Rev. Capehart indicated that the collaboration is timely and will go a long way in helping to preach the messages of peace across Liberia as well as bring a close to Liberia’s ugly past.

Meanwhile, People Uniting For Peace in Liberia (PUFPIL) is a non for profit, non government organization into developmental initiative for preventing and finding solutions to peace in Liberia through problem identification, mediation, outreach, community engagements, humanitarian assistance and gender responsiveness.

According to the PUFPIL’s boss, the formal signing ceremony reaffirms a cordial relationship shall in the best interest of the people, government and state of Liberia as well as other transitional justice actors and defenders of human rights and accountability.

He at the same time Acknowledged that such formal partnership will advance the fulfilment of the mandates and further the achievement of the objectives of both OWECC-L and PUFPIL.
