Sanniquellie, Nimba County –
The National Elections Commission (NEC) of Liberia has officially certified Hon. Samuel G. Korgar as the duly elected Senator of Nimba County, following his victory in the recently held senatorial by-election.
The official certification ceremony was held in Sanniquellie, the capital of Nimba County, on May 1, 2025. During the event, NEC Chairperson Davidetta Browne Lansanah presented the certificate of election to Hon. Korgar, confirming his successful election to the Liberian Senate.
Hon. Korgar emerged victorious in the by-election with a total of 62,136 votes, accounting for 52.08% of the total ballots cast. The election, which took place on April 22, 2025, was conducted to fill the vacant seat left by the late Senator Prince Y. Johnson, who passed away on November 28, 2024, at his residence in Paynesville.
In his acceptance remarks, Hon. Korgar expressed gratitude to the people of Nimba County for their trust and support. He emphasized the need for reconciliation, unity, and collective effort in fostering development across the County.
“I am humbled by the confidence placed in me by the people of Nimba. Now that the election is over, it is important for every citizen, regardless of political affiliation, to come together and work toward the common good of our beloved county,” he stated.
The newly certified senator also pledged to uphold the values of transparency, accountability, and service to his constituents. He highlighted key areas of focus during his tenure, including infrastructure development, education, agriculture, and youth empowerment.
Representatives from various political parties, civil society organizations, traditional leaders, and local government officials attended the ceremony, marking the occasion as both historic and symbolic for the county.
The Nimba County senatorial seat has long been influential in Liberia’s political landscape, and Hon. Korgar’s certification officially begins a new chapter of leadership in the region.
