A 27-year-old man has been arrested in Maryland County for allegedly digging out a grave and selling human parts.
According to the report, suspect Francis Sonpon a resident of Boniken Town, on September 9, dug the grave of a 3-day-old deceased Little Robert Joe Jr., who died and was buried on the 8th September 2023, and rooted out the body, cut it into pieces and sold some to community dwellers.
The report indicates that the human parts while being sold by the 27-year-old, were recognized by Citizens who reported to the Liberia National Police.
Suspect Sonpon after being apprehended and investigated by the Liberia national police Maryland detachment, admitted carrying on the act.
The suspect has since been charged with Abuse OF CORPSE, in violation of section 18.12 of the New penal code Of the Republic of Liberia and forwarded to the Pleebo Magisterial court for further investigation.
Several residents in Maryland County are currently said to be living in fear as many people term the action of 27-year-old sonpon as heartless, wicked, and dangerous.
The situation is the first of its kind according to residents of Boniken.
