GBARNGA Liberia – The 52nd General Assembly of the Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) has commenced in Gbarnga under the theme “Enhancing Governance and Leadership for Growth and Sustainable Development.” The event, taking place for two days at the Passion Hotel Branch #1 in Gbarnga, aims to strengthen the organization’s capacity to fulfill its humanitarian mission effectively.
Judge Roosevelt Z. Willie served as the keynote speaker, delivering a compelling address that emphasized the importance of integrity in leadership. In his remarks, he admonished the incoming leadership of the LNRCS, urging them to embrace ethical governance to spur growth and foster sustainable development within the organization. “Leadership is not just about position; it’s about purpose and service,” Judge Willie stated, highlighting the critical role that principled leadership plays in the success of humanitarian efforts.
The assembly brings together key stakeholders, volunteers, and partners, focusing on strategies to enhance governance structures, improve service delivery, and ensure the sustainability of programs aimed at assisting vulnerable communities across Liberia. Discussions will also center on the implementation of innovative approaches to better respond to the changing needs of the population.
As the event unfolds, participants are expected to engage in workshops and collaborative sessions aimed at refining the LNRCS’s strategic direction and operational effectiveness. During the assembly, delegates will go to the poll to elect a new core of officers who will stair the affairs for the years to come.
The LNRCS, an auxiliary to the government in humanitarian services, continues to play a crucial role in promoting the principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality as it strives to meet the needs of those affected by crises across Liberia.
The General Assembly will conclude on December 19, 2024, with the expectation that the outcomes will lead to strengthened governance and a renewed commitment to the organization’s mission.
