The official opening of the Young Political Leadership School Africa (YPLSA) Cohort 11 in Monrovia was a momentous occasion, where Delta State Governor, Rt. Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, was lauded for his outstanding commitment to youth empowerment in Nigeria.

The event, held on August 12, 2024, brought together approximately 100 young political leaders from across Africa, including Nigeria, to engage in discussions on governance, leadership, and democracy.

Delivering the keynote address at the ocassion was Vice President Jeremiah Koung, who emphasized the importance of investing in the next generation of African leaders. “Our continent’s future rests in the hands of these young leaders, and it is our duty to equip them with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed,” Vice President Koung stated.

During the event, NAYMOTE Partners for Democratic Development Board Chairperson, in a heartfelt recognition, commended Governor Oborevwori for his tireless efforts in empowering Nigerian youth.

The Governor’s initiatives, which include job creation, educational scholarships, and leadership training, have had a profound impact on thousands of young people in Delta State and beyond.

“The participation of Nigerian youth in this cohort, made possible through the support of Governor Oborevwori, is a testament to his commitment to youth development not just in Nigeria, but across the African continent,” the NAYMOTE Board Chairperson noted.

The event was graced by several high-profile diplomats, including the U.S. Ambassador to Liberia, Amb. Mark Toner, and the Anti-Corruption Chairman of Sierra Leone, Francis Ben Kaifala, who both praised Governor Oborevwori’s leadership.

Ambassador Toner highlighted the significance of international collaboration in fostering youth leadership. “This serves as a beacon of hope for young leaders across Africa. It underscores the vital role that visionary leadership plays in shaping the future of our nations,” he said.

He also added his voice, stating, “Empowering the youth is key to combating corruption and fostering good governance. Such initiatives are a powerful example of how we can build a better future through investment in young people.”

Participants of the YPLSA Cohort 11 were deeply inspired by the Governor’s dedication to youth empowerment. One of the young leaders from Sierra Leone, remarked, “Hearing about the Governor’s work has given us renewed energy and determination to effect change in our own countries”, he noted.

As the YPLSA Cohort 11 continues, the recognition of Governor Oborevwori’s contributions is expected to inspire further collaboration and initiatives across the continent, reinforcing the belief that investing in youth is essential for Africa’s progress and prosperity.
