Monrovia, Liberia

In a heartfelt ceremony held Monday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Monrovia, Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow-Nyanti was bestowed with a distinguished honor by the Liberia Independent Elder Council for Peace and Reconciliation, recognizing her exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to national unity, peace, and diplomatic advancement.

Speaking during the ceremony, Elder Samuel O. Philips, Chairperson of the Independent Elder Council, praised Minister Beysolow-Nyanti for her transformative role in revitalizing Liberia’s foreign policy and restoring the nation’s standing on the international stage.

“This recognition is a true testament to the caliber of leadership we now have at the forefront of our foreign affairs,” Elder Philips declared.

“Minister Beysolow-Nyanti’s dedication, professionalism, and relentless pursuit of peace and reconciliation have placed Liberia in a position of dignity and respect globally.”

Elder Philips highlighted the challenges faced by Liberia’s diplomatic relations in recent years, describing a period when the country’s international image was “under a dark cloud.

He credited Minister Beysolow-Nyanti for her strategic diplomacy in reversing that trend, particularly through her instrumental role in positioning Liberia for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council in 2026—an ambitious and historic goal for the West African nation.

“The Council commends her for galvanizing support across regions and continents, reaffirming Liberia’s voice in global governance,” Philips added.

Receiving the honor with humility, Foreign Minister Beysolow-Nyanti expressed deep gratitude to the Elder Council and dedicated the recognition to all Liberians.

“This is not an individual achievement,” she emphasized. “It is the collective effort of every citizen who believes in peace, unity, and the promise of our nation.

I accept this honor on behalf of the hardworking men and women in our diplomatic missions and all who strive daily for a better Liberia.”

Minister Beysolow-Nyanti also called on Liberians from all walks of life to rise above division and work together for national progress.

“For Liberia to move forward, every citizen must be willing to sacrifice in the best interest of the state,” she said.

“We must put aside our differences—political, ethnic, and social—and focus on what unites us: our shared heritage, our future, and our responsibility to build a peaceful and prosperous nation.”

The Liberia Independent Elder Council for Peace and Reconciliation, composed of respected community leaders, spiritual custodians, and elders from across the country, has long played a vital role in promoting dialogue, healing, and social cohesion in post-conflict Liberia.

The honor comes amid renewed efforts by the government to strengthen democratic institutions, deepen regional partnerships, and secure Liberia’s role in international diplomacy.

Observers view the recognition of Minister Beysolow-Nyanti as a significant endorsement from a revered institution, underscoring the importance of inclusive leadership and moral authority in nation-building.
