Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti has described as Fruitful, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s participation in the just ended 65th edition of the ECOWAS Summit held in Abuja, Nigeria.
Speaking to Executive Mansion Reporters upon arrival into the Country Monday evening at the Roberts International Airport in lower Margibi County, Minister Nyanti said Liberia through President Boakai made its case at the regional summit.
Among other things, Amb. Nyanti told reporters that Liberia shared plans with the body to work with its neighbors in a drive to revitalize the Mano River Union, MRU.
President Boakai she stated called for collective efforts and united front in order to keep the three countries in the fold.
“We also had some side lines and bilateral meetings and they all went well, The meeting was indeed Fruitful “, she re-emphasized.
Additionally, the Dean of the Cabinet disclosed Liberia’s candidacy for the UN security Council for 2026- 2027.
Initially, she pointed out that Guinea Bissau also expressed interest but later on graciously give way to Liberia as a sisterly member Country for its 2026-2027 ambition respectively.
At the same time, Liberia she highlighted pledged to support her West African counterpart, Guinea Bissau for its bid for the UN Security Council in 2028-2029 respectively.
Providing key highlights of the just ended meeting to Executive Mansion Reporters, Minister Nyanti said the gathering centered around key issues to include: Peace and Security, regional integration and good governance.
Delegates she indicated stressed the importance of running the ECOWAS community in the way that it will support the aspirations of member States as they jointly work towards Agenda 2063, looking at share prosperity.
Meanwhile, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye was named as special Envoy to among other things lead an effort to ensure that Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger return to the regional body in order to keep the family in tight following coups in the three West African Nations.
According to her, President Boakai also offered Liberia’s support to help intervene into the situation.
