The Ministry of Mines and Energy has announced the opening of an investigation into complaints surrounding the services of three of its Mining Agents.
In the wake of the ongoing investigation, The Ministry of Mines and Energy has with immediate effect, recalled Mining Agent Samuel Fahn from Henry Town in Gbarpolu County.
Agent Fahn among other things is under investigation for his alleged wrongdoing in the discharge of his duty as Mining Agent.
According to the Ministry, while Mr. Fahn is undergoing investigation, Paul Mulbah has been appointed as Acting Mining Agent to administer the affairs of the Ministry in Henry Town, GbarpoluCounty.
At the same time, the Ministry also took similar action in Fuamah-1 & 2, and Gbarma Mining districts in Bong and Gbarpolu Counties respectively.
Mining Agent Donald C. Wesseh, has been recalled from Fuamah 1 & 2, replaced with acting Mining Agent Charles Kortail, while Solomon G. Jacobs, has been recalled from Gbarma and replaced with Amos Weah Toe who now serves as acting Mining Agent in that area.
According to the Bureau of Mines, the both recalled Mining Agents will face investigation for alleged wrongdoing while administering the affairs of the Mines and Energy Ministry in Fuamah 1 & 2.
The Ministry used the ocassion to warn all Mining Agents and Inspectors to see these actions as a deterrent against acts incompatible with their duties and responsibilities in their respective assignment areas.
At all times, the Ministry expects and encourages Mining Agents and Inspectors to exhibit the highest standards of professionalism and avoid engaging into unlawful activities.
Meanwhile, The decision according to the Ministry is part of its responsibility in line with its policy intended to guide the duties and functions of employees in a proper, professional and ethical manner and form.
In another development, the Bureau of Mines further clarifies a recent media report alleging that the death in Markweh Clan, Todde District, of a man said to be an illicit miner, has nothing to do with any employee of the Ministry, although tragic.
