Liberia’s red beret political movement, the Economic Freedom Fighters has has issued a stern withdrawal warning from the 2023 political marriage with the unity party.
Monrovia, Liberia: The Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL), is threatening to sever ties with Unity Party citing unfulfilled pledges for the almost eighteen (18) months in power.
EFFL Commander-in-Chief, Emmanuel Gonquoi, accused President Boakai’s UP-led government of gross underperformance and ignoring the plights of the Liberian people.
Making remarks at the induction ceremony of the party’s district leaderships, Gonquoi pointed accusing fingers at President Boakai whike criticizing his government for what he describes as its failure to fulfill promises made to citizens.
“The sleepy lion is not a dead lion.
We gave the Unity Party government two years to live up to the agreement if they fail, we will bring them down”, says CIC Gonquio.
The EFFL is poised to make a political comeback, with renewed energy and purpose, he stressed.
“I can assure them that we, as the Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia, are returning very soon. We are not afraid of the Liberia National Police, the Armed Forces of Liberia, or even the NSA”, says Gonquoi.
He also criticized government officials for being ‘unresponsive and disconnected’ from the people.
“Working in your government does not mean we are silent, we are watching you, Mr. President. Whenever we pick up our phones and call a minister, they do not bother to answer our calls. But very soon, we will be coming for them. We brought them to power, if we ready today we will take the power from them”, the EFFL CIC says.
Known for its radical approach and pro-poor advocacy, EFFL has remained relatively quiet on recent national discussions, but Gonquoi’s message signals a shift in tone and the possible reawakening of the movement.
