Monrovia, Liberia: In a bold move to foster transparency and accountability in the healthcare sector, Liberia’s new Health Minister has committed her administration’s zero tolerance towards the fight against corruption; a menace plaguing the geopolitical, economical and social fabrics of the Liberian society.
Dr. Louise Kpoto believes, this practical step will earn the trust and confidence of national government and its international partners.
“I assure partners and healthcare professionals of our commitment to fostering a transparent healthcare system and zero tolerance for corruption. I have also learnt about the misappropriation of government and donor funds; please be assured that this is one of my priorities”, Dr. Kpoto remarked at the turnover ceremony.
As a means of assuring partners in the health sector, the Liberian Health Minister said, the contributions made to the system will be transparently used for the purpose intended.
At well-attended turnover ceremony held the Ministry of Health’s Congo Town office on February 14, 2024, Dr. Kpoto informed the gathering, her administration will place emphasis on creating a vibrant work environment that will encourage productivity at all levels whilst craving the support of the workforce to ensure the success of the Country’s health delivery.
“Working together as a team and supporting each other, will help us combat the challenges that appear insurmountable”. She noted.
The health minister received a round of applause when she announced plans by her administration to introduce the national health insurance scheme in the Country.
The introduction of the national health insurance policy will not only alleviate suffering, but provide affordable, effective coverage and equitable healthcare services for Liberians.
The Liberian health professional at the same time thanked the outgoing health minister, Dr. Jallah for her services over the past years and promised to build on her achievements and improve where necessary.
Meanwhile, the outgoing health minister expressed explicit support and confidence in the leadership of the new administration whilst tasking her to do her best and work with international partners to enhance the sector.
At the same time, health partners and donors pledged their unwavering support to the health ministry to ensure a healthy society.
