President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has called for religious tolerance, urging citizens to put aside tribalism and work towards a more inclusive future for the country.
Speaking during the IFTAR dinner organized by the Muslim Council of Liberia on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 held at the EJS Ministerial Complex, Congo Town, President Boakai emphasized that it is important to recognize individuals regardless of their beliefs, stating that Liberians should appreciate the contributions of Muslims towards the growth and development of the country.
According to him, Liberia is a land of diverse cultures and faiths but remains one people in upholding the positive atmosphere of harmony.He added that his administration stands firmly committed to fostering religious tolerance, ensuring equal opportunities for all and strengthening the bonds that unite Liberians together.
The Liberian Chief Executive further disclosed that, Ramadan which is a time of reflection, devotion and self-discipline through fast and prayers and acts of charity; should also be a time that reminds Liberians of the values of compassion, unity, and sacrifice that are essential in building a stronger and more inclusive Liberia.
He added that this sacred month teaches the power of empathy and generosity, reminding Liberians of their duty to care for the less fortunate; working accordingly towards the spirit of Ramadan that keeps inspiring Liberians to work together in peace and solidarity.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and is considered the holiest month for Muslims around the world.
During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, abstaining from food and drinks.
President Boakai said he was glad to dine with Liberia’s Muslim Community as was done last year, stating that his government will always ensure its commitment to love, justice, tolerance and national unity as Liberians seek a better and prosperous country.
