Monrovia, Liberia: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, has with immediate effect suspended Deputy Minister for Youth Development at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Bryant McGill.
Deputy Minister Bryant suspension follows grave allegations of raping a minor, aged 14.
An executive Mansion release says, the decision was taken in line with the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of sexual and gender-based violence and to ensure a fair and transparent investigation.
Deputy Minister McGill will remain suspended until the conclusion of the investigation.
At a Thursday, September 17, 2025 news conference, the Liberia National Police confirmed that the minor was sexually ‘Tampered With’ – something that has intensified national advocacy for accountability.
Despite this disturbing medical revelation, the suspended deputy Youth and Sports Minister is yet to be arrested, processed, and formally charged, by the LNP for Court trial.
Addressing a news conference, Police IG said, the alleged criminal is undergoing what he calls daily investigation at the headquarters of the LNP.
“The minister is currently in the building being questioned. While it is true that he has not been arrested, he is undergoing investigation”, Police Inspector General, Col. Gregory Coleman told a Thursday, September 17, 2025 news conference.
Coleman admonished the public to avoid pressuring the police as a team of Professionals are handling the matter with care.
“Nobody is above the law, but I am asking the public to be patient.
I prefer that we take our time and send a case to court that will lead to successful prosecution, rather than rush with an arrest as people are demanding, and then risk letting the suspect walk free.” Coleman told a news conference.
According to him, the team has prayed the court for a subpoena of the deputy minister’s call log.
He said, the call log is a very important part of the investigation because the geo-location analysis will now point to where he was and whether the allegations can be substantiated.
The LNP boss however assured the public of an impartial investigation throughout the process.
