MONROVIA, LIBERIA: The House of Representatives’ joint Committee on Investment, Concession, and Transport has immediately suspended all operations of the Liberia Traffic Management (LTM) – referencing
the company’s deliberate refusal to appear for legislative inquiry into its controversial concession agreement with the government of Liberia.
The committee labeled the company’s action as contempt of the Legislature.
Transport Ministry has been fully authorized by the joint committee to immediately resume statutory responsibilities including, vehicle registration, driver licensing, and traffic enforcement in collaboration with the Liberia National Police (LNP).
Issued on Thursday, 31 July, 2025, the stay-order reflects LTM’s failure to honor a scheduled invite to look into its traffic management agreement.
“The Legislature will not tolerate disrespect from any entity operating in Liberia,” All summoned parties complied except LTM. Their refusal to appear is a violation of legislative authority and cannot be tolerated”, Director of Press and Public Affairs-House of Representatives, Robert Haynes said. “We are committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and the protection of national interest”, he noted.
Since the activation of its activities in Liberia, LTM has come under serious criticisms and pressure from employees of the Ministry of Transport, commercial drivers, lawmakers and members of the public for outsourcing statutory functions of the Ministry of Transport to a foreign company.
Over 200 employees of the Ministry of Transport have repeatedly protested against the concession – saying, it renders them redundant during these harsh economic situations facing the Country.
Commercial drivers who took to the streets of Monrovia on July 28, 2025, told newsmen, the company is involved with alleged extortion of money, and double ticketing for the same violation.
“This company is exploiting Liberians under the guise of traffic enforcement,” said Morris Dolo, a commercial driver. “They extort money from us and ignore the law”, he said.
The different groups, are calling for the cancellation of the deal which gives only 30% in revenue to the government of Liberia and, 70% to the company in annually.
At the same time, authorities of the Liberia Traffic Management and its legal team have been summoned by that august body to appear before the it on Monday, to respond to charges of contempt for repeated failure to comply with legislative summons.
