Margibi County, Liberia:
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has returned to Liberia following a diplomatic mission to the United States, using the occasion to call for leadership, renewed global partnerships, and a national push for self-reliance.
Addressing reporters at Roberts International Airport, President Boakai described the trip as “a very positive move,” and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the nation’s interests at the heart of every decision.
“Everything we’re doing is centered around putting Liberia first. That’s what guides our efforts ensuring that our Country’s interests are prioritized in all our engagements,” he stated.
During his time in the U.S., President Boakai held bilateral talks with representatives from over 15 Countries, focusing on opportunities in investment, innovation, and sustainable development.
Though Liberia has yet to join Africa’s top investment destinations, Boakai expressed confidence that progress is within reach.
“We are working toward becoming a leading destination for investment. It’s not just about external confidence it’s about building confidence within ourselves, our systems, and our leadership,” he said.
Citing the development strategies of countries like China and the United States, Boakai emphasized that Liberia must develop its own path.
“We don’t have the technology yet. We don’t know how long some partners will remain committed. But our focus is to build a self-sufficient Liberia—one that no longer depends entirely on outside help,” he remarked.
He also reiterated his role as the Country’s top diplomat, pledging to promote Liberia’s image and potential to the international community.
“My role is to sell Liberia in a positive way to tell our story and show the rest of the world who we are. We must be bold. We must aim for greatness. That’s how progress is made,” Boakai said.
His return comes at a critical time as Liberia works to attract foreign direct investment and implement the ARREST Agenda, a national blueprint targeting Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism as key pillars of development.
