The House of Representatives of the Republic of Liberia, through its Committee on Foreign Affairs, has officially issued a statement of full and unwavering support to the Government and People of Liberia in their quest to secure a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2026–2027 term.
This endorsement, announced from the Capitol Building, marks a significant milestone in Liberia’s diplomatic history and affirms the country’s longstanding commitment to global peace, security, multilateral cooperation, and democratic governance.
In the official statement, the House emphasized that Liberia, having contributed meaningfully to international peacekeeping, post-conflict recovery, and regional stability, is well-positioned to bring a unique and credible voice to the Security Council’s deliberations. The Legislature believes that Liberia’s presence on the UNSC will serve to amplify the concerns and aspirations of smaller nations, particularly those from West Africa and the Global South.
Under the leadership of Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, the House reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the Executive Branch in advancing all necessary diplomatic, legislative, and logistical efforts to ensure the bid’s success. The Legislature also expressed deep appreciation to H.E. Sarah Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Liberia’s Ambassadors around the world, for their active leadership in promoting the nation’s candidacy.
