The Liberia National Red Cross Society is hosting a two-day storytelling workshop aimed at improving fundraising skills for 12 participants, including staff, volunteers, and journalists from Grand Cape Mount, Bong, Grand Bassa, Rivercess and Monsterrado counties.
The workshop, which is being held at the Red Cross Headquarters, is sponsored in collaboration with the Swedish Red Cross.
Key training areas include the fundamentals of fundraising, content development, humanitarian storytelling, ethical considerations, photography, and videography.
The workshop aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance their fundraising efforts and support humanitarian initiatives in Liberia.
At the opening of the training, Liberia Red Cross Program Manager Christopher Olue Johnson emphasized the importance of collaboration with journalists to effectively communicate humanitarian needs in the country.
He stated that the Red Cross aims to complement government efforts in disaster response, highlighting the role of powerful storytelling in attracting donor support.
Swedish Red Cross Representative Ana also addressed participants, expressing her chapter’s commitment to strengthening the capacity of the Liberia Red Cross in fundraising efforts.
She underscored the crucial role of fundraising in supporting vulnerable communities and encouraged participants to report impactful stories that would raise awareness and attract donations.
Liberia National Red Cross Communication Officer Oniel Bestman outlined the challenges faced by community residents and the need for increased funding to address these issues.
He urged journalists to create compelling stories that amplify the urgency for support and mobilization.
Bestman acknowledged the Swedish Red Cross for their assistance in improving quality humanitarian reporting and emphasized the necessity of effective storytelling in meeting growing humanitarian needs as donor funding declines.
