The Nation’s biggest sporting festivity, The National County Sports Meet, will officially commence on Sunday, January 12, 2025, in Reportsport, Grand Cape Mount County.

Chief Patron of Sports, Joseph Nyuma Boakai, as part of the festivity, will officially take the kickoff in Robertsport , Grand Cape Mount County to mark the opening of the traditional competition.

Speaking to our reporter with three days to the official commencement of the month long event, the communications director at the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Publicity Committee Chairman of the 2024/2025 edition, Oxford Brown disclosed that all is now set for the annual sporting festival.

According to him, the four venues across the Country for the tournament are all set and ready for sporting action.

Under the theme: Inclusive Development through Sports, Mr. Brown stated that participating counties and teams are in full gear for the competition.

Unlike before, he indicated that the 2024/2025 edition of the National County Sports Meet will feature three categories, namely: football, kickball, and basketball, respectively.

At the same time, he told our reporter that in a drive to motivate the players, there will be cash awards to players of the match for each game, adding that the cash prices will increase as the competition progresses.

Brown, who encouraged all Liberians to see the month long annual competition as a means to unify and reconcile the nation and its people, also pointed out that it is meant to show case the skills of talented young players across the Country.

“Let’s continue to see this tournament as a way to reunite and reconcile each other despite political, religious and tribal backgrounds, let’s avoid damaging of our sporting facilities during these events and to the players and technical staffs, we will encourage only good sportsmanship and discipline as contrary to that, the rules of the tournament will be applied”, he reechoed.

Mr. Brown named the four venues as : Central – Liberia; Gbarnga, Bong County, South East; Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, Western Liberia; Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County, and South East; Greenville, Sinoe County, respectively

He at the same time released the list of the four zones to include:

Group (A) Bong, Grand Bassa, Maryland, and Bomi Counties.

Group (B) Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, Margibi and Montserrado Counties, in Group (C) Sinoe, Rivercess, Lofa and Gbarpolu Counties and in Group (D) Grand Cape Mount, Nimba and Rivergee Counties respectively.

As the preliminary rounds expected to climax on January 18, 2025 across the four venues, Rivergee is the current defending champion in the football version while Rivercess is the current defending champion in the kickball version, respectively.

With three days to go, the venues are set, the teams and players are now prepared to showcase their talents and skills in full action while the fans can’t wait to cheer their respective Counties to victory as only the best of the very best will eventually emerge as champions of the 2024/2025 edition of the competition.
